Come wind, Come rain      (Earth Cry, Butter Factory Studios, 2020)

My watercolour sketches are a spontaneous and anxious response to climatic extremes. While painting a wasteland, the idea of a small symbol of hope in the form of a wind turbine occurred to me but, as is the way when hurling watercolour around, the image transfigured into something else … an angel alighted amid this scene of devastation.

The gouache and wax paintings further explore the wind turbine as a kind of winged messenger. The turbines seem feeble in the face of the unstable elemental forces humanity has unleashed upon it itself, but they nevertheless bravely summon the wind and the rain.
